PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY AND WOMEN’S HEALTH SERVICES

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized branch of physiotherapy involving internal and external assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor muscles. Those muscles are located between the hip bones and the sacrum, and they serve as a bowl to support the pelvic organs including the bladder, colon and uterus. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is much more than just “kegels” which is an exercise often over prescribed when treating pelvic floor dysfunction!

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy can help with:

  • Painful intercourse

  • Urinary or fecal leakage

  • Pressure sensations in the vagina or rectum

  • Frequency of urine flow and urgency of urine

  • Weak muscle contractions

  • Scars/adhesions from surgery

  • Constipation

  • Persistent hip and/or back pain

  • Increased muscle tension
